Return on Investment (ROI) – Grass-oline and Apple Cider Vinegar
Description
One of our dealers from Wisconsin recently purchased 12 head Holstein steers weighing 621
pounds.
He gate cut the steers into four groups for a 90 day trial. He fed each group 10 pounds grain
(cracked corn and bean meal) per day and free choice hay. The hay was a mixture of fair quality
grass and grass and alfalfa mix. For mineral supplement, each calf got 1 ounce sea-90, 1.5 ounces
ProMin, and 1 ounce of Gold Cattle mineral.
Group 1 was the control group, getting no ACV or Grass-oline. Group 2 got ½ ounce of Grass-oline. Group 3 got 3-4 ounces ACV. Group 4 got 3-4 ounces ACV and ½ ounce Grass-oline.
Due to a family emergency, he couldn’t weigh the steers exactly at the 90 day mark. He had to go 8 extra days, the weights were shrunk 3 percent before calculating average daily gain.
Weight Gain results were
Group 1 : 2.08 pounds per day Group 2 : 2.34 pounds per day Group 3 : 2.20 pounds per day Group 4 : 2.84 pounds per day.
To figure the return on investment lets say a pound of weight gain is worth $1.50 (conservative for
2025 prices).
The cost of feeding Grass-oline to Group 2 was $0.046 per day. The 26 pounds weight extra gain
